Letting Go

I haven’t written in a while. I recently told a friend that I only write when God gives me a message, and I haven’t had one lately, but I was feeling guilty today, so I tried to find one. Oddly enough my message was going to be about letting go and letting God be in control of everything we do. A little hypocritical to say the least…. Even though I know better than to do things out of guilt, it’s still a powerful motivator. Legalism and religion just wouldn’t work without it.

At any rate, I started my post, but it was not flowing, and I knew why, so I deleted it and instead started a letter to our sponsored child in Kenya.

As I wrote I wasn’t really thinking about it, I just wrote my heart for her, and it turned out to be a much better grace message than what I was trying to conjure up a few moments before. So, I’m going to share that instead:

Hi Muthoni,

How are you? How is your family? I’ve been thinking about you a lot lately. We pray for you often, but when I think of you, I mostly think of the things I want for you.

The main thing I want for you is that you would grown up always understanding God’s love. It is the foundation for everything we believe. God loved us first. He loved us knowing that we could never really do anything for Him and that we would make a lot of mistakes, but that didn’t matter to Him. He just wanted to be with us and love us. That’s how he feels about you, sweet girl. He doesn’t ever want you to worry about how He feels about you. It will never change. It will only ever be love.

No matter what you do, His love will still be there. You don’t have to try to please Him, or try not to disappoint Him because He is already pleased with you. He can’t help but be pleased. You are his creation and the righteousness of His son rests on you. Not only that, God is love. It’s His essence. He is made up of love and His desire is to share it with you. No matter what happens in your life, I hope you will know that.

We love you very much.

Jennifer

From the story of the prodigal son:

Luke 15:20 “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.”

Ultimately I ended up proving the point I’d wanted to make, but through example rather than through a message. God’s grace flows when you let go and let God.

Thanks for sharing Jen! Letting go and letting God be in control is one thing that I do struggle with. The one thing I find ironic is that I can let go and let God and see the huge victory in that area of my life. However, other areas it seems like a struggle to do it.
